Schedule Virtual Tutoring Support

You’ve got your schedule for next week’s courses. Now, take a moment to schedule time with our tutoring staff for the courses you are most challenged by. Do you have an English class at 8 a.m. on Monday? Perhaps your writing tutoring block should be Tuesday morning to address assignments from the previous day. Is there a Math class on Wednesday afternoon? Book some time for Thursday morning to help address outstanding math problems you’re struggling with.

TUTOR MATCH FAQ: Who? What? Why? How? When?

What is Tutor Match?
Tutor Match is a remote tutoring option offered by Brainfuse, a free, on-line tutoring service available to Chandler-Gilbert students. Tutor Match allows you to schedule on-line tutoring appointments with CGCC tutors.
Click here to connect to Tutor Match within the Tutoring Platform (Brainfuse).

Why should I use Tutor Match?
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all Chandler-Gilbert campuses are closed and all in-person classes will switch over to a remote format.  To help provide academic support for CGCC courses, access to online tutoring has been extended to all students (previously only available for students in online and hybrid courses).  Tutor Match will let you connect with tutors from the CGCC Math, Science, and Writing Centers for help with any of your current Chandler-Gilbert classes.

Who can use Tutor Match?
At this time, access to Brainfuse and Tutor Match has been extended to all CGCC students.  Please note that you may only use Brainfuse for assistance with Chandler-Gilbert courses in which you are currently enrolled. The use of Brainfuse for coursework from other institutions is strictly prohibited and subject to the college's policies and procedures regarding the acceptable use of student support resources.  Brainfuse tutoring sessions are recorded and reviewed by college personnel on a regular basis.

When can I use Tutor Match?
Tutor Match will show which tutors are available once you have chosen a subject. You can then select a session time from the list of available tutors.  Students also have access to the Live Help option (through Brainfuse staff) for times that CGCC tutors are not available for pre-scheduled sessions. As much as possible, it is highly recommended that you utilize CGCC tutors via Brainfuse Tutor Match since they are more familiar with your CGCC coursework, instructor expectations, and assignments.

Spring Semester 2020 Class Schedule Update

Dear Chandler-Gilbert Community,

Thank you for your continued support for one another and our community during these challenging times. We are concerned for your well-being and the health of our college and broader community.
Based on the continuously evolving status surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, MCCCD has decided all online courses will continue as scheduled and all in-person and hybrid classes are now postponed through Sunday, April 5, 2020.
What does this mean for you?
In-person and hybrid courses will resume in an online/alternative delivery format beginning on April 6, 2020, and will be offered in this format through the end of the semester.
Your instructors will be contacting you with information about how your class will be continuing. Please check Canvas for your classes and information.
As you already know, all current online classes are continuing as scheduled.
We recognize that there are some courses and learning experiences that cannot be delivered in an alternative format, and we are currently identifying solutions. These classes might include classes with field experiences, service learning, student teaching, practicum, and clinical experiences. Should your specific course not be offered online by April 6, 2020, you will be contacted prior to that date with further instructions.
A potential two-week extension for the end of spring semester for some courses is being considered by some instructors.  If this affects you, your faculty will inform you how this impacts your specific course.
If you need accommodations for a disability, please connect with a Disabilities Resource Coordinator here.
Please continue to check your Maricopa email address, follow us on social media and check http://cgc.edu for up to date information.
Additionally, the District Office and Colleges have identified resources to support students in transitioning online, such as:
anywhere computing - learn how you can virtually set up meetings with faculty and other students.
Please note that your college will not be providing in-person services on campus until further notice. Information about how you can access college services will be available on our website. Should local health authorities or other government officials mandate a different policy allowing the opening of campuses, you will be notified.

Sincerely,

Dr. Greg Peterson
President

CGCC and President Dr. Greg Peterson Honored By Phi Theta Kappa

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) recently honored both CGCC President Dr. Greg Peterson the local College PTK chapter. Dr. Peterson was selected as a PTK Paragon President and the local Alpha Sigma Nu Chapter was officially named a 2020 Reach Chapter.

The Paragon Award honors new college presidents who have shown strong support for student success by recognizing academic achievement, leadership and service among high-achieving students at their college. Recipients are nominated for the award by the students on their campus. Dr. Peterson is one of only 28 awardees from more than 500 eligible college presidents. He, along with the other recipients, will be recognized during PTK Catalyst 2020, the Society’s annual convention, April 2-4 in Grapevine, TX.

“I am honored to receive the Paragon Award for New Presidents,” said Dr. Peterson. “Student success is a core value at Chandler-Gilbert. Being nominated by students and recognized by PTK is truly an outstanding accolade. I share this award with our dedicated faculty and staff who share my passion for student success. As a PTK alumnus, I am proud of our current PTK students and the growth of our chapter. I congratulate them on being named a 2020 REACH Chapter.”

“Dr. Peterson’s leadership and emphasis on student growth is an asset for our college and the Chapter,” said Ryan Cain, CGCC Student Services Director and PTK Chapter Advisor. “Local chapter PTK Students were passionate about nominating Dr. Peterson because of his commitment to creating an inclusive environment, participating in their events and highlighting their successes, and his overall commitment to students at CGCC. They truly value his positivity and his tireless efforts to promote student success at CGCC.”

The REACH program honors PTK chapters that focus on Recognizing Excellence in Acceptance and Completion with Honors. The REACH Rewards program encourages membership by rewarding chapters who achieve or exceed 15 percent for their membership acceptance rate. More than 121,600 students across the world became PTK members in 2019. The 2020 REACH Chapters will receive free graduation stoles for their members.

“We created this program because we believe strongly in the mission of Phi Theta Kappa and want as many students as possible to receive the benefits of membership,” PTK President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner said. “Increased opportunities to apply for scholarships and engage with their peers and key faculty members lead to higher completion rates, and students get those opportunities through PTK.”

“We are thrilled to be named a 2020 REACH Chapter,” said Cain. “Increasing awareness about the benefits our students receive as PTK members is an important goal, as it allows us to welcome more students into the fellowship. As PTK advisors at CGCC, we strive to create opportunities for our students to develop their full scholarship potential, enrich their academic experience through projects which positively impact the college and the community, and support them as they work towards goal completion. We look forward to continuing to grow the Alpha Sigma Nu chapter with more promising leaders and scholars.”

PTK students have a 91 percent student success rate of completing an associate degree or transferring to a four-year school. Members have access to $2 million in competitive scholarships through the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation and additional scholarship opportunities through local chapters.
