Welcome New Coaches!

We are thrilled to welcome four new outstanding head coaches to Chandler-Gilbert Community College Athletics this year! Introducing Richard Esperti, Men's Soccer; Amanda Omar, Volleyball; Bryanne Norris, Softball and Brian Rosario, Women's Basketball.

While these individuals are new to CGCC, they are veteran coaches who bring a combined decades of rich experience to the Coyotes Athletic Program. To help everyone “get to know” our new coaches, we will be profiling each one throughout the year starting with Coach Bryanne Norris.

Coach Norris comes to CGCC after spending seven years as the assistant softball coach at Grand Canyon University (GCU).

"I could not be more excited to be joining Chandler-Gilbert Community College and for the opportunity to take the softball program to a new level,” said Norris. “I'm eager to bring a rich culture and stability to the program by challenging our student athletes to give their very best on the field and inside the classroom.”

In her seven years at GCU (2008-2015), Norris was responsible for the development of pitchers and catchers, administrative duties and recruiting. She helped lead the Antelopes to a championship season during their inaugural year at the Division-I level in 2014 with a record of 12-3 in the WAC Conference and 27-21 overall. Under the leadership of Coach Norris, several student-athletes received top awards for academic excellence and their performances on the softball team.

“I am very excited to have Coach Norris join the coaching staff at CGCC,” said Ed Yeager, CGCC Athletic Director. “We are fortunate to be able to hire a coach with her credentials.  She has been and is a winner on the field and in leading student athletes to success in the classroom.  She will challenge our young women to be successful and to expect good things to happen through their hard work.”

Coach Norris played collegiate softball for two years at Notre Dame de Namur (NDDM) in San Francisco where she received a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. During her senior year at NDDM she held a batting average of almost .300 with three home runs, 30 RBI, 13 doubles and two triples. She spent her first two years at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix where was named the team's top defensive player as a catcher. She also holds a master’s degree in leadership from Grand Canyon University.

The ariZoni Theatre Awards is a not-for-profit organization devoted to promoting the visibility and growth of theatre in the Valley of the Sun & Maricopa County. CGCC Nominated for National Sustainability Award

Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) has been selected as a finalist for the 2016 Second Nature Climate Leadership Awards for its leadership in sustainability efforts.

The Second Nature Climate Leadership Awards recognize innovative and advanced leadership in sustainability, climate mitigation and resilience at academic institutions committed to shaping a more sustainable society. Chandler-Gilbert Community College is a leader in several areas of sustainability including: energy efficiency, recycling, water conservation and sustainable design.

Residing in the desert, water usage is a key issue for CGCC. In order to begin addressing consumption, CGCC converted the landscape watering system from potable water to reclaimed sources that were made available by the City of Chandler. The central plant (air conditioning) chillers, the largest single use of water on campus, was converted to reclaimed sources in 2016.
Over the last four years, the college has replaced aging roofs with better insulated options, has adopted an energy efficient equipment policy, and – most notably – has retrofitted roughly 80 percent of the overhead and external light fixtures on campus with LEDs.  The complete renovation of Agave Hall last year marks the first completely LED-lit building in the system.

Beyond demand reduction, CGCC has been developing resilient options for energy generation. In 2012, CGCC partnered with Salt River Project to build the Environmental Technology Center, CGCC’s solar-powered outdoor classroom in the environmental learning lab. The Coyote Center, includes a solar-powered water heating system and most recently a fully operating 1.38 Mega Watt photovoltaic solar array on campus. The installation completed earlier this summer supplies 37 percent of the Pecos campus’s energy usage.

Additional award finalists include: Cedar Valley College in Dallas, TX; Johnson County Community in Overland Park, KS; College, Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon; Milwaukee Area Technical College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Santa Fe Community College in Santa Fe, NM.

Second Nature in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Center for Green Schools will announce the winners this October in Los Angeles, California, as part of the Greenbuild Leadership Awards Program, benefiting from global publicity opportunities. CGCC to Host Political Forums for Students

The Office of Student Life and Leadership will host a series of political forums entitled “Project 3D” at Chandler-Gilbert Community College’s Pecos Campus to promote civic participation among students. “Project 3D” is a series of forums created by CGCC student Curran Vinson that gives students the opportunity to discuss and understand key political issues such as immigration, gun control and social justice. With the three “Ds” representing diligent, dynamic, and determination this project stops at nothing to give participants an enlightened experience.

“My hope is that Project 3D attendees will take these core values to heart, and be courageous enough to create a society built on the relentless pursuit of truth, justice, and equality,” said Vinson. “I hope they leave excited about the future they're going to create, so that they will tell, share, and plan with others. Most importantly, I'd like for them to leave with the hope and knowledge that democracy does work, but only as hard we do, no more, no less.”

Forums will be highly engaging and led by a panel of informed experts on the featured topic. The objective of this format is to facilitate the public’s understanding of complex issues through the power of discussion. Vinson will serve at the moderator and host for each event.

In addition to the forums, a voter registration event is being held on October 5 in an effort to make sure students are registered and ready to vote in the general election by the October 10 registration deadline. The voter registration portion of Project 3D is being conducted in connection with Rock the Vote, a non-partisan group that focuses on educating and registering young voters and getting as many as possible to turn out to the polls. This event will include live entertainment, food and guest speakers.

CGCC Names New Head Softball Coach

Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) has named Bryanne Norris as the new head softball coach. Norris comes to CGCC after spending seven years as the Assistant Softball Coach at Grand Canyon University (GCU).

There’s more to being a college student than sitting inside a classroom. CGCC offers endless opportunities for students to get involved. As the fall semester approaches, we encourage you to join a student organization! Being an active part of campus life allows you to become better connected with your school community and discover new friends with similar interests.
